Self-ServiceKioskScales

Compact, integrated weighing for self-service check-in and automated bag drop.

Weighing Solutions for the Self-Service Airport

The airport check-in experience has fundamentally shifted. Passengers increasingly bypass traditional ticket counters in favor of self-service kiosks — touchscreen terminals where they print boarding passes, select seats, and tag their own bags. But self-service doesn't eliminate the need to weigh luggage. It changes where and how the weighing happens.

Self-service kiosk scales are integrated weighing platforms built into or adjacent to check-in kiosks and bag drop stations. Unlike traditional counter scales operated by trained airline agents, kiosk scales must function in unattended environments — meaning they need to be more robust, more tamper-resistant, and more intuitive than their staffed counterparts.

Division Weigh To Go!® has been building kiosk-compatible weighing solutions since airlines first began deploying self-service infrastructure. Our kiosk scales are designed from the ground up for the specific constraints of automated check-in: compact footprints that fit within kiosk furniture, sealed electronics that withstand constant public use, and communication protocols that integrate directly with kiosk software platforms.

Every kiosk scale we manufacture is NTEP certified for legal-for-trade accuracy — the same certification standard required at staffed counters. Self-service doesn't mean self-regulated. The weight reading at a kiosk determines baggage fees just as authoritatively as at a traditional counter, and the scale must meet the same legal standards.

Weighing Solutions for the Self-Service Airport

Designed for Unattended Operation

A kiosk scale faces challenges that staffed counter scales don't. There's no agent to guide passenger behavior, troubleshoot problems, or reset the equipment. The scale must handle every scenario autonomously.

Compact Form Factor

Self-service kiosks operate in tighter footprints than traditional ticket counters. Our kiosk scales are available in platform sizes starting at 14" × 14", designed to mount within or beside kiosk furniture without requiring additional floor space. Corner-mount configurations allow placement at the kiosk's bag drop position without blocking passenger flow or competing for space with the kiosk terminal itself.

Durability Without Supervision

Passengers interacting with self-service equipment aren't gentle. Bags get dropped, dragged across platforms, and occasionally kicked into position. Our kiosk scale platforms use the same heavy-gauge stainless steel construction as our staffed counter scales, with sealed load cells rated for continuous duty. The weighing surface is designed with no exposed edges or crevices that collect debris or allow tampering.

Software Integration

Kiosk scales communicate weight data directly to the kiosk's application software through RS-232, USB, or Ethernet protocols. The kiosk software reads the weight, applies the airline's baggage policy, and displays the result to the passenger — all without human intervention. We support integration with major kiosk platforms including SITA, Materna, ICM, and Embross, as well as airline-proprietary systems. Our engineering team provides integration documentation and testing support for every deployment.

Kiosk Scale Applications

Self-Service Check-In Kiosks

The most common deployment: a weighing platform integrated with an airline's self-service check-in kiosk. The passenger places their bag on the scale, the kiosk reads the weight, and the system determines whether the bag is within limits or requires an overweight fee — all before the passenger prints their bag tag.

Automated Bag Drop Stations

In bag drop environments, the kiosk scale serves as the primary weighing point before the bag enters the conveyor system. These installations often require low-profile platforms that passengers can roll bags onto directly, integrated with the bag drop conveyor and automated tag reading systems.

Pre-Check Weighing Stations

Some airports deploy standalone weighing stations in the terminal lobby, allowing passengers to check bag weight before entering the check-in queue. These freestanding kiosk scales display weight on a passenger-facing screen and help reduce queue time by allowing passengers to repack before reaching the counter. Division has installed pre-check stations in airports across North America, providing travelers with the information they need before the check-in process begins.

Whether you're deploying a single kiosk or outfitting an entire self-service lobby, Division builds kiosk scales to your specifications. Contact our team to discuss your kiosk platform and integration requirements.
